Name: Pendleton Round Up Wagon Train

    Event Description:
The first Round-Up Wagon Train started at the "Mustang Grounds" east of Pendleton and ended in the Pendleton Round-up arena in 1982. This wagon train was not open to the public, but it started an adventure that has continued for over 35 years. The 1983 wagon train opened to the public and has been traveling the forest service roads, logging roads and trails of the Blue Mountains surrounding Pendleton ever since.

The Wagon Train is always the last full week in June. The dates for 2017 are June 19th thru 24th, We mobilize on Monday, travel Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, have breakfast on Saturday morning break camp and go home. We have 12-14 wagons and 110+ horseback riders traveling in the Blue Mountains south and east of Pendleton, Oregon.

Wagon Train camp will be in the Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon at elevations of 4700 ft to 5000+ft; breakfast and dinner will be in camp. Saturday morning breakfast is the final meal after which cleanup of the campground and planning for next year begin.

This is a family friendly Wagon Train! Activities will include Wednesday Talent Show; Thursday, Breast Cancer Awareness day (wear your pink!) and potentially a Barrel Ride (body of water required). Friday is traditionally “Period Dress-Up” day; dress like the original Wagon Train! Don’t forget to bring your cameras. Friday evening live music will be provided for your listening and dancing pleasure. Additionally there might be a scavenger hunt and some yet to be announced contests and activities. Stud horses and all dogs are not allowed- please leave them home, young horses (foals) must be halter broke and kept tied. The terrain is quite rocky and uneven, we highly recommend that animals be recently shod (some people find boots effective too). Please plan to contain animals with a high line, electric fence, panels or tie to your trailer; don’t tie to trees and don’t leave hobbled horses loose. If you and your animals are in shape it will make the trip a lot more fun. Remember rain is always a possibility and at 5000 ft. the nights can be very cool so come prepared for whatever Mother Nature brings. The next mailing will be in late May and will include a suggested equipment list and a map to our camp.
